CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL is a software-based safety controller that does not require a defined, two-channel hardware substructure according to IEC 61508. It can therefore run on any hardware, currently with x86 architecture (ARM-based platforms in preparation). To do this, the processing of the application software is distributed across two logical software channels – using “diversified encoding”, which is based on the well-known “coded processing” method. This ensures the same safety level as known from two-channel hardware solutions. CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL enables the control of safe fieldbus I/Os via Ethernet-based safety protocol (currently PROFIsafe, FSoE in preparation).

When using the CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL, the information in the associated Release Information Document must be observed!
When using the CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL, the workarounds in the CODESYS Safe Control Core Errata List must be taken into account.
Licensing
Application based license: The CODESYS Control SL runtime system can be licensed with an application-based license.
The license is activated on a software-based license container (soft container) that is permanently bound to the device. Alternatively, the license can be stored on a CODESYS key (USB dongle).
